Meet Dr. Tye Copeland

Dr. Tye Copeland

After graduating from Houston Baptist University in 2007, Dr. Copeland knew he wanted to pursue a career in healthcare; still, he was unsure exactly what profession that would lead to. Around the same time, his grandfather was diagnosed with myelodysplasia and began treatment at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Copeland accompanied his grandfather to appointments and was impressed with how the staff helped his family navigate through an event that required serious decisions. He soon got a job working in the epidemiology department, where the goal was to identify groups at risk for developing oral cancer and establish prevention protocols. ‘’We were trying to find the root of a problem before it became serious. I learned how to work with patients during a difficult time, and the dentists there were amazing. It was about more than smiles. It was preparing people for treatment and helping them through a life-changing occurrence.”

Dr. Copeland’s time at MD Anderson Cancer Center helped him discover a career he was passionate about and he decided to attend the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston. “The choice was easy because the dental program in Houston has a state of the art facility as well as established relationships in the Texas Medical Center that foster a collaborative spirit between doctors and dentists.” He continued on his path of disease prevention and detection there, taking elective coursework in oral medical examination. This philosophy has carried over into Dr. Copeland’s patient care with extremely thorough evaluations being a part of each visit. "I like getting to know patients, understanding what’s important to them and taking great care of them. I want to try to make each person happy, meeting them where they are in their lives.”

As a member of the American Dental Association and the Texas Dental Association, Dr. Copeland stays up to date with the latest in dentistry. He has been involved with Give Vets a Smile and Give Kids a Smile®, providing underserved children and veterans with high-quality oral health care.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Copeland and his wife Dorothy keep busy with their two young sons, Cullen and Carter. They’re both from Waller and are thrilled to be a part of the Huntsville community.
